  4.     TIME is to be congratulated for its article on the esoteric
  5. topic of Assyriology and the archaeological dig at Nimrud in Iraq
  6. (SCIENCE, Oct. 30). Spectacular finds like this one are useful
  7. for popularizing these studies through museum exhibition, but they
  8. are not the means used to reconstruct a dead civilization. There
  9. is not an Assyriologist on earth who would not prefer a few dozen
  10. important cuneiform tablets to all the gold in Nimrud. Please give
  11. them their scholarly due.
